Minji is an odd person - from outward behavior to internal thought process, she is very unconventional. Minji is perceived as extremely awkward and erratic by the vast majority of people she comes across. She struggles with intrusive thoughts that often revolve around people and their perceptions of her, and has almost no filter from brain to mouth. Never having thrived in interacting with others, she is socially stunted and gives up faster as she gets older. However, when she’s in her element, Minji excels at almost anything she puts her mind to. She is incredibly smart and understands new information very easily, especially related to technology. Being very intuitive with academics, she is able to pick up many related skills with ease.
Having a very low self-esteem in almost every aspect of herself, Minji has a tendency to project her insecurities and shortcomings onto other people’s intentions. She does this in a paranoid way, blurting out accusatory things such as people thinking she’s ugly or has low intelligence. It can be a bit hard to get to know her or get her to trust someone, but she is a great listener and extremely loyal to those who do manage to get close. Attending Hope’s Peak did give her more ability to put herself out there, though. Even if she didn’t gain much confidence in other areas, Minji found that being around people who appreciated her talent and showed interest in it made her have more confidence in her skills at least.
Alina Holub: Alina has a distaste for Minji, and Minji is intimidated by Alina. When the two were first introduced, Minji made a comment about her talent as a bodyguard in comparison to her fragile appearance. Alina also dislikes how outright rude Minji’s comments towards Dulce are, though also is the one to tell Dulce to leave Minji alone when Dulce is being overly social with Minji. Minji kept making comments about Alina’s appearance being “too pretty” while not realizing it upset Alina, and was flustered by her presence since that’s how Minji reacts to people she deems as very attractive. Upon witnessing Alina’s fighting and athletic skills, Minji only became more awkward around Alina due to now also being intimidated by her.
Dulce Aguado: Dulce was always very friendly with and drawn towards Minji, deeming her a “very cute person.” Meanwhile, Minji has always been overwhelmed by Dulce’s presence. Dulce would often try to include Minji in big group settings, much to Minji’s confusion, and it stressed her out. Minji would often sling backhanded comments towards Dulce when overwhelmed, but Dulce would simply ignore these and continue to tease Minji.
Hayden Ellis: Minji and Hayden were some of each other’s only friends, despite both being socially avoidant. Minji approached Hayden one day in the library about a manga Hayden was reading. The two then started bonding over books and reading, and eventually became close friends. Minji was one of the only people who knew Hayden’s mental health struggles in depth, and Hayden was one of the only people Minji felt she could be genuine with. They kept up with each other nearly daily after graduation.
Spencer Campbell: While Minji isn’t particularly into horror novels, she has a strong appreciation for Spencer’s novels due to the quality of the writing. Minji would often phrase it slightly oddly due to being flustered, such as calling Spencer’s work “peak literature.” Spencer found Minji’s behavior and quirks to be funny and endearing.
Uche Obiako: Minji would act extremely flustered whenever he talked to or was in close proximity with her. Minji was like this around people she deemed to be “freakishly good looking” which Uche fell into the category of. Uche realized that Minji is just a bit odd and socially awkward pretty early on. While Minji had a lot of misunderstandings with most people because of her social issues, Uche simply let it roll off his shoulders and continued to be normal with her. Minji developed a bit of a crush since he was one of the few people to do this.
